Fernweh VR
A downloadable game
Fernweh is an interactive music album presented as a slow, contemplative VR walking experience. Instead of selecting tracks from a playlist, you discover them by moving through a dark, misty landscape with no paths or objectives. Exploration becomes the way you listen. Each composition exists as a physical place within the world, revealed through distance, resonance and the quiet pull of hidden sonic landmarks. The album unfolds around you, turning movement and proximity into the core of the listening experience.
The interactive album reflects the artistic approach of Termotank, the experimental project founded by Matías Brunacci and Guido Flichman. Their work blends ambient, drone, dark ambient, noise and minimalist electronics into immersive sonic environments that function more like spaces than traditional compositions. Fernweh extends this philosophy into virtual form, transforming listening into something spatial, tactile and contemplative.
Because the world has no threats, timers or challenges, you can wander at your own rhythm and treat the environment as a meditative refuge. Spatial audio turns every cavern, forest and structure into a living resonance that surrounds you, creating an atmosphere built for deep listening and quiet immersion. This focus on presence rather than progression offers a form of VR centered on calm, introspection and sensory attention.
Remastered and optimized for modern headsets, the Fernweh VR standalone version marks the tenth anniversary of its original 2015 release. This edition preserves the freeform exploration of the first version while enriching its atmosphere and expanding its sonic detail. To celebrate this milestone, the album at the core of the experience is also being released in audio format for the first time, allowing its music to be heard both inside the virtual world and independently of it. For players drawn to ambient landscapes, experimental sound and VR as a reflective space, Fernweh offers a world where wandering and listening merge into a single continuous experience.
The game is now available to download through the SideQuest Store.
